Einen Sommer lang hat sich Regisseur Gerd Bendel auf einem Campingplatz in Berlin-Spandau einquartiert, um den Mikro-kosmos der Dauercamper zu dokumentieren. Mit erfrischender Offenheit und Neugier geht er auf die Bewohner zu und nimmt an ihrem Alltagsgeschehen teil. Obwohl er durchaus ‚anders‘ ist, wird er von der Campinggemeinde bald als Neumitglied akzeptiert. Schließlich wird sein Wohnwagen zum Treffpunkt für Gespräche und Feste mit viel Musik. ‚Zuhause Reisen‘ ist ein Selbstversuch, der auf einfühlsame Weise Einblicke in eine Gesellschaft mit eigenen Regeln und Ritualen bietet — zwischen Fernweh und heiler Welt, Alltag und Abenteuer, Aufbau vor und Abbau nach der Saison.

In order to document the microcosm of ‘Dauercamper‘, or constant campers, director Gerd Bendel spent one summer on a campground in Berlin-Spandau. His friendly, open manner confuses his subjects at first, and he makes no attempts to chum up, but he is soon accepted as a full-fledged member of the community. Though he does things differently than most, his RV becomes a meeting place for conversation and loud parties.‘Traveling at Home‘ is an experiment that allows us to take a closer, more insightful look at a society with its own rules and rituals — some-where between wanderlust and perfect world, between everyday and adventure, between the beginning and the end of the camping season.
